The McCosker Super Sedan Series Ford Wreckers Redcliffe Summer Slam is all set for two great nights of action with drivers attending from three states. Unfortunately the uncertainty surrounding the border restrictions has had an effect on this year’s field however there is still fantastic depth. Night one (26th December) will be at Autobarn Carina Speedway Bundaberg featuring twenty three cars and night two (27th December) at the Corbet’s Group Mother Mountain Speedway and features twenty two cars.
The field is mostly the same for both nights. Headlining the entries is current Australia 1 Darren Kane (Dominator), Darren by virtue of playing his joker at the last round of the series in Kingaroy is the new points leader and was the inaugural Summer Slam Champion in the 2016/17 Season where he totally dominated winning all four rounds.
Sean Black comes into the Slam in red hot form and will be looking to extend his winning streak after collecting his third win of the series at Kingaroy last weekend. Sitting second in points Sean is a previous Summer Slam event winner as well having won the preliminary final on night one at Gympie last season.
McCosker Super Sedan Series third placed Sam Roza (Sweet 77) will race both nights and has elected to play his “joker” at Gympie, the track where he began his racing career in a Junior Sedan.
Also in the field are previous Australian Champions Steve Jordan (Sweet 10) and Mick Nicola (KO VIC 3), although a Victorian Mick’s car is currently based in QLD due to COVID 19 so we are very lucky to have him competing with the series at all rounds so far.
Another of the nominated drivers who has been affected by the restrictions of COVID 19 this year and keen to get a race event in this season is Tyson Moon (Sweet 57). Tyson who resides in Bega NSW has faced a huge logistical challenge to compete in the Summer Slam, the most recent COVID 19 developments in NSW have force the Team to travel around Sydney adding many kilometers to their trip. And to ensure he didn’t miss the opportunity to race Tyson and his young family have left home early and will spend Christmas on the Gold Coast. The Association extends a special thanks to the Moon family for their commitment.
Matty Pascoe is the most winningest driver in the short history of the Summer Slam with six victories. Matty will be aboard his fourth different car for the series (engine issues have sidelined the QLD 1 Sweet) as he will drive the Darryl Moon owned Sweet Chassis number 47. Darryl has family commitments and has offered Matty the ride for the next three events on the Series calendar.
A new chapter will be written into the Super Sedan history books this Saturday and it involves the Pascoe family. Matty will race against two of his sons Zac and Brad. Brad will make his debut aboard the Nicola owned Rocket Chassis 11 car that Matty drove at Kingaroy just recently. The youngest of the Pascoe children Brad is just sixteen years old and began racing in the Junior Sedan division at twelve.
Drivers will contest three heat races each and a forty lap final on both nights. The top sixteen will be locked in with the remainder running a B main to secure one of the twenty starting positions.
Autobarn Carina International Speedway also has on the program the Pro1 Race Parts Modified Sedan Stampede, Round Two of the Fixit Auto Wreckers Street Stocks, Junior Sedans Carina Classic and Nostalgia Sedans.
