The McCosker Contracting Super Sedan Series ran at Archerfield Speedway on Saturday the 10th of April for round 13 of the season which was supported by AFCO Shock Doctor. In a return to his own Barnes Drilling Sweet Queensland 1 Chevy Impala Mat Pascoe led every lap of the feature to take out the win over Steve Jordan (Dominator 7) and Sean Black (Sweet 26).
Pascoe was very thankful of Kenny McNamara from KRE for putting in a big effort to get the powerplant finished and dynoed by early afternoon on Saturday. Pascoe set quick time in hotlaps to show his intentions to the rest of the field that the potent combination was more than ready for the night ahead.
Heat wins went to Darren Kane (Dominator 1), Steve Jordan x 2, Mat Pascoe, Tania Smith (Rocket 3) and Tyson Moon (Sweet 47)
The top eight qualifiers took part in the dashes against the clock. Advancing from the bronze was Wayne Randall (Challenger 34) and Trent Wilson (Sweet 44) which left Josh McLaren (Sweet 96) seventh and Sam Roza (Sweet 77) eighth. Darren Kane set the fastest lap in the silver followed by Tyson Moon leaving Randall fifth and Wilson sixth. Pascoe set the quickest lap in the gold shootout with a 14.663 to take out pole for the feature followed by Kane, Jordan and Moon.
The 30 lap feature got underway with Pascoe leading from Kane and Jordan. Jordan passed Kane on lap 15 and also moving through the field was Sean Black who had come from 12th to be in 8th position at this time. The first caution on lap 18 of the race was for an incident between Trent Wilson and a lapped car with Wilson being relegated to the rear for bringing on the yellows. At the restart the top 5 were Pascoe, Jordan, Kane, Moon, and Wayne Randall. On lap 19 Moon passed Kane and Black was up to 6th with David Musch (Sweet 12) having a good run in 7th. The yellows would come on again with just 4 laps remaining for Craig Hammond (Rocket 2) who caught a rut in turn three and made contact with the wall. The final moves were made on the restart with Black moving past Moon and Kane to take over third place. Pascoe led from flag to flag to win over Jordan, Black, Moon and Kane. Completing the top 10 were Randall, Roza, Musch, Wilson and McLaren. First placed Development Series driver was Hayden Brims who finished in 11th place.
Feature winner Mat Pascoe had a near perfect with his worst result being 2nd in heat four. He said “we weren’t that good in the dash so we went back to our set up from the start of the night. I was a little concerned when we pulled out on the track for the feature but the track was actually quite fast in turns 1 and 2 and so I just had to be careful in turn 3. The track really suited our car.” Pascoe is sponsored by Barnes Drilling, KRE, Sweet Chassis, Shock Shack, North2West Tyres & Wheels, Ipswich Powder Coating, Dryden Signs, Fuchs Oils, Mudbuddy, Nut & Bolt Factory and Kempy Pipes.
Second place Steve Jordan in the Terry White Racing Dominator 7 used his Joker round to great effect moving into third place in the championship. Steve said “we were pleased to do so well on a trying track and hopefully we can have similar success at the GP53“. Jordan is sponsored by Nissan 4 x 4 Parts, Sweet Chassis, Pro 1 Race Parts and Down Under Graphics.
Third placed Sean Black had a mechanical issue in the first heat of the night which put the Team behind and saw him qualify 12th. “I didn’t think qualifying that far back we would get to the front of the field, the best we were hoping for was a top five. The track had character but I was able to move around and that’s what helped my progression through the field.” The Q26 Chev Impala is sponsored by Handford Plumbing Services, Narellan Pools, Linmac Automotive, Burson’s Autoparts, Toowoomba Steering and Supension, L Cleaning Service, DTS, Ash Media, Page Race Engines, Terry Austin Smash Repairs, DePool Shop, Scott’s FRP and GW Racing.
