An outstanding field of 25 drivers have entered with current Australia 1 Darren Kane (Dominator Gen 5) once again headlining the field. Former National champs Steve Jordan (Dominator 7) and Mick Nicola (KO Vic 3) are also nominated.
Three drivers with big miles ahead of them to make this weekends event are Townsville’s Trent Wilson (Sweet 44) and Rockhampton’s Gavin Northfield (Dominator 15) and Justin Smithwick (Sweet 63). All three will be determined to be on the podium to make their trips worthwhile.
Unfortunately the most recent winningest driver at the Brisbane venue with six victories in the last eight series visits Matty Pascoe is still waiting on motor components and will miss the event. This is great news for the rest of the field, considering Matty’s dominance at the venue, who will all be keen to get their own championship chase off to a great start.
Sean Black (Sweet 26) has remarkably finished on the podium five times in the last eight events. The 29 year old mechanic from Toowoomba was the series champion in 2015/16. Other results Sean holds in high regard are two times 2nd placings in the QLD Titles, 2nd in the Grand Prix (Tasmania) and 2nd in the Grand National (Tasmania). Sean has an all female crew most nights consisting of his wife Samantha, mother and co-owner Leah and his sister Tracey-Lee. The Team are supported by Handford Plumbing Services, Narellan Pools, Linmac Automotive, Burson’s Autoparts, Toowoomba Steering and Suspension, L Cleaning Service, DTS, Ash Media, Page Race Engines, Terry Austin Smash Repairs, DePool Shop, Scott’s FRP, GW Racing. You can follow the Team on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SeanBlacksTeamRacing
Drivers will contest 2 rounds of heats each, the top 8 will then go against the clock in the bronze, silver and gold dashes to determine their starting positions. Qualifiers 9 thru 16 will be locked in to the 30 lap feature with drivers from 17 thru 25 having to take part in a B main to secure one of the 20 starting positions.
Teams will be hoping for good weather to get the series underway after the opening round was washed out at Toowoomba a week ago.
The round is supported by Kempy Race Pipes.
