National Champion Joel Berkley set the tone early in the evening, with a comfortable victory in the opening heat of the night. Berkley led home Victoria’s Brock Atkins in second, and New South Welshman Tyson Moon in third.
Darren Kane continued his strong season at Toowoomba with a win in heat two after starting from sixth on the grid. Zac Pascoe hassled him all the way to finish second, from ‘The Joker’ Steve Jordan in third.
Tasmanian Callum Harper came out on top of a great race long battle with Matty Pascoe to win heat three. Pascoe crossed the line in second, ahead of Michael Hally in third.
Toowoomba’s own Sean Black led the way in heat four, taking the win from Justin Randall in second, and Kane in third.
Todd Atkins dominated the action in heat five, crossing the line almost three seconds clear of David Musch in second, and Berkley who rallied from the back of the pack to finish in third.
Victoria’s Ash Bergmeier was pushed all the way in the final heat of the night, but held on to take victory from Rob Hamilton in second, and Hayden Brims rounding out the podium in third.
Atkins set QuickTime in the shootout to bag $500, but would start the fifty three lap main event from tenth position.
Hally would launch from pole position with Brims to start on the outside of the front row.
Hally was able to get the best of the start and lead the opening lap. Brims followed in second, from Bergmeier in third, Hamilton in fourth and Harper in fifth.
Berkley took fifth from Harper, before the opening caution of the race was out for Randall who had spun in turns three and four.
Hally led at the resumption from Bergmeier who took second, and Berkley in third who relegated Brims to fourth, and Hamilton to fifth.
Atkins having started from tenth had already advanced to sixth after three circulations.
Out front Bergmeier took the lead as Berkley took second, and then the lead a lap later.
Atkins moved to the top side to move to fourth, before blasting around Hally and Bergmeier in one fell swoop to move into the runner up spot on lap nine.
Matty and Zac Pascoe were both making moves and moved into the top five to take fourth and fifth respective on lap ten.
Matty Pascoe continued to work the extreme top side of the Toowoomba ‘High Banks’ and shot around the outside of Bergmeier to take third position.
Back up front Atkins and closed right in on the tail of Berkley, as Pascoe closed in on the pair of them to make it a three way dice for the lead.
A slight bobble from Berkley out of turn four allowed Atkins to dive to the inside and draw level heading into turn one. Berkley powered around the outside, and Atkins having given up his momentum allowed Pascoe to close and throw a slider into turn three. Atkins this time powered up around the outside to clear back into second as the caution flag was out for Tyson Moon with thirty five laps to run.
Berkley led at the resumption, as Pascoe was able to clear Atkins to take second at the line, from Atkins in third, Zac Pascoe in fourth and Bergmeier in fifth.
Atkins fought back railing the top side and blasting through a remarkably small gap between Pascoe and the wall to re-take second position.
Atkins closed in on the rear of Berkley and threw a slider, but didn’t quite clear Berkley, and Berkley kept the momentum up to hold on to the lead, as the caution flag flew for Harper, Brims and Sam Hughes who had come unstuck in turns three and four.
Berkley led away the restart from Atkins, as Zac Pascoe took third from his Dad, and Trent Wilson entered the top five after starting from twelfth position.
Matty Pascoe built the momentum back up on the top side to re-take third position from his son, and set out after the lead pair.
Pascoe threw another slider at Atkins, and again Atkins held strong in a very tight battle to hold on to second.
Atkins closed back in on the rear of Berkley, and as Atkins threw a slider into turn three, Berkley got tight on the top side allowing Atkins through to the lead with twenty four laps to run.
Atkins found himself facing heavy lap traffic, but could put his Dominator Chassis anywhere he liked to extend his advantage over Berkley and Pascoe as the caution flag flew with nineteen laps to run.
Atkins stretched his legs in the closing twenty laps and streaked away to a dominant four second victory over Berkley in second, and Matty Pascoe in third.
Zac Pascoe held on to fourth after a great battle in the closing stages with Trent Wilson who rounded out the top five.
Brock Atkins was next across the line in sixth, from Mick Nicola Jnr in seventh who transferred from the B Main. Hamilton crossed the line in eighth, from Brad Pascoe in ninth who took the Mark O’Brien Sweet Chassis from the rear of the B Main to claim the Crumptons Interstate Hard Charger Award. Bergmeier rounded out the top ten.
Newcomer to the Super Sedan dicision Steve Potts took home the Queensland Speedway Spares Racer Recognition Award, and Tyson Moon picked up the Boomba Concrete Pumping Lucky Dog Award.
