National Champ on the Money in Rocky

Joel Berkley has taken victory in the McCosker Super Sedan Series Grand Finale at McCosker Rocky Speedway, and the $3000 pay day that goes with it.

Berkley would start the thirty five lap main event on pole position, after Matty Pascoe went fastest during the shootout, but selected to start on the outside of the front row.

Pascoe got the best of the start and jumped out to lead the opening lap from Berkley, Justin Randall, Harry Doyle and JJ Hamilton rounding out the top five.

Berkley kept pace with Pascoe and got side by side as the two crossed the stripe to complete lap two.
Berkley was better in turns one and two, but Pascoe was able to keep the momentum up on the top side, and power around the outside in turns three and four to maintain the lead.

Pascoe and Berkley continued to battle it out as they cleared away from the chasing pack.

Pascoe got clear of Berkley just as the opening caution flag was out on lap seven for a spinning Bradley White.

Pascoe continued to lead at the resumption from Berkley and Randall, as Hamilton advanced to fourth, relegating Doyle to fifth.

Pascoe flexed his muscle following the restart and built his biggest lead of the race, as the lead pair again put a big margin between themselves and the battle for the minor placings.

Randall was under immense pressure from Hamilton, but he was up to the challenge and held on to third position.

Pascoe held a four to five car length advantage as they headed towards lap traffic. Pascoe made a big mistake in turns one and two, allowing Berkley to draw level as they put a lap on Tobie Powe, spread three wide across the track.

Pascoe fought his way back to a four car length advantage as he and Berkley put a lap on Bob McCosker with sixteen laps to run.

Zac Pascoe was next to go a lap down, and it was here that Berkley would strike. Matty followed Zac around the top, then looked to dive to the bottom to put his son between himself and Berkley.

Matty couldn’t clear Zac, and slipped to the top of the track. Berkley found great traction on the bottom of the track, and cleared the Pascoe pair to take the lead with twelve laps to run.

Hamilton finally got by Randall for third, but as that happened Will Hockley spun in turns one and two, forcing Hamilton to do it all over again from fourth position.

Berkley led at the resumption from Pascoe, Randall, Hamilton and Doyle.

Hamilton dove to the inside and took third, but Randall fought back to reclaim the position. Mick Nicola Snr advanced to sixth, after having started from tenth.

Nicola drew level with Doyle as he looked to enter the top five, and after three laps side by side Nicola cleared Doyle to take fifth position.

Out front Berkley had cleared away and went on to take the victory by 3.017 seconds. Pascoe battled on to take second, as Randall cleared away from Hamilton to round out the podium in third.

Hamilton held on to fourth from Nicola in fifth. Doyle was next across the line sixth, ahead of Sam Hughes in seventh. Victorian Ash Bergmeier crossed the line in eighth, from Michael Hally in ninth, and Sean Black rounding out the top ten.

Nicola advanced five positions to pick up the Crumptons Interstate Hard Charger Award. Bergmeier took home the QSS Racer Recognition Award after making the trek up from Victoria. Rockhampton’s own Harry Doyle collected the Boomba Concrete Pumping Lucky Dog.
