Hayden Brims took out round two of the McCosker Super Sedan Series this past weekend at Gympie Speedway. Brims entered the second night of competition at the top of the points standings after a victory in one of the mini features on the opening night. Sean Black won the other feature to sit second in the points, followed by Trent Wilson, Michael Hally and Zac Brims.

Brims kicked off night two with a victory in heat five. Brims led the way from his brother Zac Brims in second, and Trent Wilson in third.

Zac Pascoe was too good in heat six, taking the win from Black in second, and Rockhampton’s Harry Doyle in third.

Doyle won a thriller in heat seven, crossing the line a narrow 0.003 seconds ahead of Gympie’s own Mark Pagel. Hally rounded out the podium in third.

Black was victorious in the final heat of the night to go to the top of points standings after eight heat races. Wilson followed Black home in second, ahead of Victoria’s Mick Nicola in third.

As the top point scorer, Black opted to invert the top six for the thirty five lap main event, to chase an extra $1000 for the win.

The invert promoted Nicola to pole position. Nicola was joined on the front row by Hally. The Brims brothers locked out row two, with Wilson and Black set to launch from row three.

Hally got the best of the start and powered around the outside of Pagel’s corner into the lead. Hally led the opening stanza from Nicola, Zac Brims, Hayden Brims, and Wilson rounding out the top five.

Hally cleared out to a comfortable lead as a wild battle raged on for the minor placings, and the back end of the top five.

Zac Brims took second from Nicola, as Nicola faced pressure from Hayden Brims, Wilson, Doyle and Pascoe who were all running side by side in an epic display for the fans in Gympie.

Hayden Brims took the final spot on the podium on lap six, with Doyle following him through to fourth on the following lap. Back up front Zac Brims had closed the gap to Hally to just a couple of car lengths as the first caution of the race was out with twenty six laps to run.

Hally led at the resumption, with the Brims brothers battling in close quarters right behind for the runner up spot. Zac Brims reclaimed second from his brother and got a great run down the main straight to take the lead through Pagel’s corner.

Hally looked to fight back down the back straight, but went for a spin to bring out the caution.

Hally was reinstated to the lead for the restart, Zac and Hayden continued to battle side by side, as Hayden came out on top to take the runner up spot with twenty three laps to run.

Doyle powered around the outside of Zac Brims to take third position, as Pascoe took fifth position.

Hally continued to lead, as the chasing pack of Hayden Brims, Doyle, Zac Brims and Pascoe closed in to make it a five car battle for the lead.

The lead pair closed in on lap traffic and Brims used it to his advantage to take the lead from Hally with seven laps to run.

Doyle continued to hold on to the final podium position despite intense pressure from Zac Brims and Pascoe. Brims slipped up to allow Pascoe through to fourth position with three laps to run.

Out front Brims cleared away by a couple of car lengths to take out the first victory of the season. Hally followed Brims across the line in second, with Doyle rounding out the podium in third.

Pascoe was next across the line in fourth, from Zac Brims in fifth. Black crossed the line in sixth, from Wilson in seventh, David Musch in eighth, Steve Potts in ninth, and Nicola rounding out the top ten.

The McCosker Super Sedan Series will return to action on the 18th of October at McCosker Gladstone Speedway.
