Trent Wilson marked his first start for two months with a commanding victory in the opening heat of the night. Rob Hamilton crossed the line in second, leading home his nephew JJ Hamilton in third.
Mitchell Gee was back in his family owned Q11 and got his night off to a great start with a win in heat two. Atkins rallied from the back of the pack to be next across the line in second, ahead of Hayden Brims in third.
Zac Brims kept up his strong form with a victory in heat three, getting the best of Sean Black in second, and Will Hockley in third.
New Queensland Champion Brad Pascoe dominated the action in heat four, crossing the line three seconds clear of Sam Hughes in second, and a further two seconds ahead of Michael Hally in third.
Hayden Brims took out a thrilling victory in the penultimate heat of the night. Brims made himself a line on the top of the track, and after building up the momentum lap after lap he took the lead, and the win a photo finish over Steve Potts in second. Gee rounded out the podium in third.
Zac Pascoe came out on top in the final heat of the night after a great battle with Black who finished second, ahead of Rob Hamilton in third.
Gee qualified on pole position for the thirty lap main event, with Hayden Brims joining Gee on the front row.
Black qualified on the inside of row two, renewing his rivalry with Zac Brims who was set to start from position four. Queensland Champion Pascoe would start from position five with Rob Hamilton on his outside.
The first two rows remained in formation, and took to out of turn four for Brims to gain the ascendancy and lead the opening lap. Gee ran second, from Zac Brims in third, Black in fourth and Brad Pascoe in fifth.
Zac Brims built up the momentum on the outside and took the runner up spot from Gee on lap two.
Gee was under pressure from Black, who was under pressure from Pascoe, and a little mistake from Black allowed Pascoe through to fourth position.
The Brims brothers cleared away out front, as Gee, Pascoe and Black battled it out for the minor placings.
Atkins having started from twenty first had made his way up to twelfth after ten laps.
Up front the Brims brothers closed in on heavy lap traffic, as they headed towards the halfway mark of the race.
Zac briefly drew level with eighteen laps to run, as Gee closed the gap to the lead pair.
Hayden was able to find a way through the heavy traffic as he put three lap cars between himself and his brother, as the first caution flag flew bang on half race distance.
Gee threw a big slider at the restart, but it cost him some momentum, allowing Black to capitalise and go from fifth to second on the restart. Zac Brims held on to third, and as Gee settled in fourth, and Wilson entered the top five before the caution flag flew again.
Atkins had made his way up to seventh for the latest restart, and got a helluva start to enter the top five. Atkins had plenty of grip on the bottom of the track, and went from fifth to third through turns three and four, moving by Gee and Black in one fell swoop.
Black had a great run out of turn two and looked to immediately reclaim the position from Atkins. Atkins looked to heading to the top side of the track, but diamonded the corner as Black arrived at a rate of knots, making contact with Atkins left rear to bring on the caution light.
Black was deemed as the primary cause of the stoppage and sent to the rear for the restart.
Hayden Brims went to the top side at the restart as Atkins drove to second. Zac Brims fought back on the outside to reclaim second position. Atkins fought back this time as he drove back to second position, before Zac again reclaimed second in an epic display.
Gee and Pascoe also traded position as they fought over fourth position.
Zac Brims closed in on the tail of his brother, and threw a slider for the lead. Zac cleared Hayden, but came in way too hot, and looped the car in front of his brother who made contact with his right rear tyre.
Zac exited the race, as Hayden resumed the race in the lead.
Atkins had great momentum on the inside through turns three and four, and hit the front at the line with six to run.
Atkins looked to slide up the track to block Brims line, but Brims powered around the outside to regain the lead down the back straight, and lead at the line with five laps to go.
Brims slipped high in turns one and two, allowing Atkins to draw level down the back straight. Atkins drove deep into turn three and to the lead out of turn four.
Atkins again slid up the track in turns one and two, and this time was able to clear Brims and block the lane to maintain the lead.
Pascoe found something on the bottom of the track, and cleared Gee and Brims in successive corners to hit the runner up spot.
Pascoe drew level down the front straight, as Atkins closed the door to hold the lead with three to run.
Brims car expired, after damage sustained from the earlier contact with his brother.
Atkins and Pascoe duked it out all the way to the line as Atkins claimed an incredible victory.
Pascoe crossed the line in second, just ahead of Gee in third, with the top three separated by just 0.879 seconds.
Wilson was next across the line in fourth ahead of Zac Pascoe who rounded out the top five.
JJ Hamilton crossed the line in sixth, ahead of Sean Black who rebounded from the back of the pack to finish seventh.
Sam Hughes finished eighth, ahead of Rob Hamilton in ninth, and Steve Potts rounding out the top ten.
Atkins was ecstatic post race, thanking everyone involved in getting the car ready, and declaring they’re only going to get better with more laps under their belt.
The McCosker Super Sedan Series will continue this weekend with round seven at McCosker Gladstone Speedway.
