Brims Dominates The GP53!

Zac Brims has secured his second five figure pay day of the season by winning the sixth running of the GP53 (Graham Pascoe Memorial) at Lismore Speedway.
Queensland, Tasmanian, New South Wales and South Australian Champion Brad Pascoe got his night off to a commanding start, with a dominant win in heat one. Brims also got off to a great start, breaking the lap record on his way to a second placed finish, ahead of Nash Granger in third.
Steve Jordan made his return to the track after hurting his motor earlier in the season, and got off to a strong start by winning heat two. Jordan led home Sean Black in second, and Will Hockley in third.
Michael Hally got the best of a great battle with Victoria’s Mick Nicola Jnr in heat three. Nicola Jnr was right on Hally’s hammer in second, ahead of David Musch in third.
Matty Pascoe returned to the track aboard the Brims Family N77, and took out a comfortable victory in heat four. Pascoe led his son Zac Pascoe home in second, from Harry Doyle in third.
Brims continued his strong night with a victory in the penultimate heat of the night. Brims led the way from Victoria’s Mick Nicola Snr in second, and Matty Pascoe in third.
Sam Hughes took out a narrow win over Black in the final heat of the night, with Steve Potts rounding out the podium in third.
Brad Pascoe was brilliant in the shootout. After qualifying ninth Pascoe set fast time in every shootout to bank $500, but with the caveat of having to start the fifty three lap main event from tenth position.
Brims ended up on pole position, alongside Nicola Jnr. Hughes and Black would occupy row two, with Doyle and Zac Pascoe set to launch from row three.
Brims got a great launch to lead the opening circulation from Nicola Jnr, Hughes, Black and Doyle inside the top five.
Doyle was facing heavy pressure from a pair of Pascoe’s with Zac relegating Doyle to sixth on lap two, and Matty relegating him to seventh on lap three.
Brims was setting a rampant pace out front, putting a big gap between himself and Nicola Jnr in second, who also had a strong advantage over Hughes in third.
The caution flag was out for the first time on lap five. Brims led at the resumption, with Nicola Jnr able to keep pace with Brims after the restart.
The pace continued to be frantic out front, as Brims and Nicola Jnr raced in lap traffic.
Matty Pascoe entered the top five on lap nine, taking the position from his son Zac Pascoe who fell to ninth.
Nicola Jnr was able to capitalise after Brims was baulked by a slower car, to take the lead on lap ten.
Black took third from Hughes on lap thirteen with the battle for the final spot in the midst of heavy lap traffic.
Nicola Jnr’s bonnet came up, causing visibility to be a challenge, and a mistake on lap fourteen saw Brims regain the lead.
Pascoe took fourth position from Hughes on lap fourteen, before the caution flag flew a lap later for a stricken Michael Hally who exited the race with right front suspension damage.
Brims continued to lead at the resumption from Nicola Jnr, Black, Pascoe and Hughes.
Brims was flawless in traffic as he was able to extend his lead to a significant margin over the chasing pack.
The battle for the podium positions was wild between Nicola Jnr, Black and Pascoe. Nicola Jnr’s bonnet again flew up, this time fully covering his vision and forcing him to the infield, relinquishing second position with ten laps remaining.
The caution flag flew for debris just as Nicola Jnr came to a stop on the infield, allowing his bonnet to be removed, but he fell to eighth for the restart.
Brims led away after the restart with ten laps remaining, from Black, Matty Pascoe, Hughes and Brad Pascoe now inside the top five.
Brad Pascoe’s race would end seven laps from home after a right rear shock mount failed, as Pascoe was attempting to get to the infield he was collected by Doyle to bring out the caution flag for the final time with seven laps to run.
Brims wouldn’t be challenged on the final run to the flag, leading forty nine of fifty three laps to earn in excess of $10000 for the second time this season.
Black crossed the line in second, coming out on top of a great battle with Matty Pascoe who rounded out the podium in third, continuing his streak as the only driver to be on the podium in every edition of the event named after his Father.
Hughes battled gamely throughout the race to cross the line in fourth, ahead of Doyle who rounded out the top five.
Nicola Jnr battled back to finish sixth, ahead of Zac Pascoe in seventh, Musch in eighth, Nicola Snr in ninth, and Potts in tenth.
The McCosker Super Sedan Series will return to action on the 9th of May for the second running of the $20000 to win Sue Hawkings Memorial at McCosker Gladstone Speedway.
