Defending series Champion Harry Doyle kicked his season off with a victory in the opening heat of the night. Doyle led the way from Hayden Brims in second, and ‘The Joker’ Steve Jordan in third.
Former National Champion Trent Wilson also kicked his season off with a heat race win, by taking out heat two. Hayden Brims was again second across the line, from Doyle in third.
Zac Brims was in fine form in heat three taking out a comfortable victory from Doyle in second, and Wilson in third.
Brims made it two on the bounce when he won the final heat of the night to secure pole position for the twenty lap feature race. Michael Hally was next across the line in second, from Wilson in third.
Brims led the way from pole position, Doyle slotted into second, ahead of Hayden Brims in third, Wilson in fourth and Jordan in fifth.
The first caution flag was out after three laps after Jackson Brims spun at the back of the pack.
After the restart it was Hayden’s turn to spin, bringing the field to a halt without another lap being complete, and Brims race coming to an end.
Brims led at the resumption from Doyle who faced pressure from Wilson over the runner up spot, whilst Jordan and Hally rounded out the top five.
Hally progressed into fourth position with fifteen laps remaining, relegating Jordan to fifth.
Brims was beginning to build a strong lead, as Doyle, Wilson and Hally battled over the final spots on the podium.
Wilson would draw level with Doyle on more than a couple of occasions, but was never able to clear Doyle to take the position.
Brims maintained a comfortable advantage out front and went on to cross the finish line almost a full nine seconds clear of Doyle in second.
Hally stole third on the final lap with a great pass through Pagel’s corner. Wilson was next across the line in fourth, ahead of Jordan who rounded out the top five.
Michael Taylor crossed the line in sixth, ahead of Jackson Brims who rounded out the field in seventh.
The McCosker Series will return to action with round two at Maryborough Speedway on the 24th of October.
